ABOUT THE ETHNIC CCC

"Education Is the Key to Success"
THE LATE MRS. PENSAL J. McCRAY, FOUNDER

TALIA McCRAY, PhD

EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR

MISSION:  The mantra of Center Founder, Mrs. Pensal J. McCray, was, "Education Is the Key to Success." The mission of the Ethnic College Counseling Center, Inc. (ECCC) is to help prepare students to succeed in college.  Students as young as sixth graders are eligible for Center services.

COLLEGE PREPARATORY ACTIVITIES:  From September to June, Center staff works with parents, mentors, tutors, and other community volunteers to help students gain admission to a college of their choosing and to anticipate and prepare them for the decisions, challenges, temptations, choices, and skills required to succeed. Center activities include:

  • Inviting speakers representing a variety of careers;

  • Tutoring and mentoring students;

  • Sponsoring Skills Workshops to improve communication, critical thinking, decision making, studying, writing and research skills, testing-taking, and social interaction.

The ECCC is partnering with Charles Schwabb to conduct Financial Freedom Seminars. The schedule is featured on the Home Page of this website.

SUCCESSES:  Over 3000 students have received ECCC assistance. The ECCC

has also helped over 3000 students tap into scholarships and other financial

aid to schools all over the country.
